The Macon Fire Department was organized in 1872 and is made up of a combination of full time career and paid reserve firemen. We have 7 full time personnel in the capacity of a Fire Chief, Assistant Fire Chief, Captain and 4 Engineer/Firefighters and we have 12 paid reserve firefighters.
We have 3, 24 hours shifts with 2 men on duty and the seventh man picks up the vacation days and other days. At this time our primary job is fire education and suppression. We do not run any emergency medical calls unless we are requested by the Ambulance.
We answer approximately 100 - 125 runs a year that includes everything from service calls (odors and citizen assists), vehicle accidents to commercial structure fires.
