Various fire prevention programs are taught at the Macon Fire Department. Our fire prevention officer is
Olin Roper. Every year approximately 900 kids are taught fire prevention at the schools. The schools that we go
to are the Macon Public Elementary School, Tri-County Christian School and Immaculate Conception Catholic School.
We also visit all of the day care centers in Macon. In our programs we use both pluggie (the robot fire hydrant)
and Sparky.
Several adult classes are given also and they range anywhere from basic fire prevention classes and fire extinguisher
classes to bomb threat classes. Some of the organizations that we have taught the bomb threat class to are the
various Nursing Homes.
We also have a Meth Lab class that was the first one in the State of Missouri. The purpose of the class is to teach
emergency responders what the hazards are in a meth lab and possible signs that there could be a meth lab when
an emergency responder arrives on scene. This class has been taught to various fire department, police departments
and sheriff departments all over the State of Missouri.
