Tuesday Afternoon Bible Class:
Augsburg Today June 25, 2005 is the 475th anniversary of the presentation of the Augsburg Confession. This is the basic confessional writing of Lutheran churches throughout the world. The Augsburg Confession is still read and discussed today, and not only by Lutherans. A few years ago, there were rumblings that the Roman Catholic Church might recognize the Augsburg Confession. These rumblings came to nothing, however. Our Tuesday afternoon Bible study will be examining the Augsburg Confession. We will learn about the times and circumstances under which it was written, and the courage of the Lutheran princes who presented it before Charles V, emperor of the Holy Roman Empire. Most of all, though, we will draw closer to our Lord Jesus Christ as we see how His Word was summarized and its most important teachings confessed at Augsburg. For the Augsburg Confession really has one message above all: the message of the Gospel, that God saves us sinners by His grace through faith for the sake of Christ. If you can, please join us for this study on Tuesday afternoons, 1:30-3:00.
